David Rickert, a retired commercial artist, shifted his focus to painting in 1995 and has established himself as a dynamic painter.

Spanning a wide range of subject matter, Rickert’s images include traditional subjects such as landscapes, people, still life, and floral. Recently, he returned to an earlier semiabstract expressionist style for a series of 20 canvases depicting interpretations of jazz music and musicians called “Legends of Jazz,” an exhibition of which appeared at Premier Gallery in 2006.

Rickert considers himself “self-taught” and credits much of his design, drawing, and color skills to his years in commercial art. He is a signature member of NOAPS (National Oil & Acrylic Painters Society) and winner of its prestigious “Best Use of Light and Color” award in 2004, the Minnesota Watercolor Society, and Minnesota Artists Association.
