Bernd Hillmann, born in the former East Germany, started drawing and painting as a young boy under the tutelage of his father, a well-known European painter. He had his first one-man show at the age of 21.
Hillman has said, “Collecting with sketchbook, eyes, and pen, mixing this with your emotions, here starts art.” He doesn’t usually talk about his work, but “I paint. If I wanted to talk about it, I would be a writer. If you can’t see and feel what I tell with my painting, words will not help.”
