Russian-born artist Konstantin Berkovski draws inspiration from European masters of the 16th and 17th centuries and the natural world to create classical watercolors. Working from observation and memory, he creates improvisational still lifes, florals, and landscapes based on a combination of color and composition. Utilizing the “wet on wet” method allows the full richness of color and gesture to convey his vision about the subject without being overwhelmed by detail, and also allows the unexpected to be used as part of the beauty in his paintings.

Each finished work is preceded by many earlier unacceptable variations. "Every minor success rewards me for my efforts. This approach does not allow me to repeat myself. . . . I do not see the problems I have already solved, but the ones that are still waiting for a solution."
